About the Author

Waqar Ahmed is an experienced professor and Director of Enterprise at the University of Lincoln's College of Science. With a background in nano(bio)materials and extensive experience in research, leadership, management, and lecturing, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this book. His contributions will help readers gain a fundamental understanding of the applications of engineering management principles through practical case studies and graded self-assessment questions. Waqar couples vast academic experience with a decade of industrial and technology transfer experience in the UK and internationally. He has published extensively research papers, reviews and books including several with Elsevier such as Advances in Medical and Surgical Engineering; Emerging Nanotechnologies series including Emerging nanotechnologies for Manufacturing (1st and 2nd editions); Emerging nanotechnologies for Dentistry (1st and 2nd Editions) and Emerging Nanotechnologies for Renewable Energy. Professor David Phoenix, OBE, DL, DUniv, AcSS, DSc is the Vice Chancellor of London South Bank University, Chair of millionPlus, and a member of the HEFCE Strategic Committee for Teaching Quality and the Student Experience. He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians for his contribution to medical research. He currently represents Universities UK on the UK Performance Indicator Steering Group. In 2015 the Prime Minister appointed him as a trustee of the Science Museum Group. He is also a trustee of Universities UK and a Director of the National Centre for Universities and Business. With over 250 publications, Prof. Phoenix remains a visiting professor at Kings College London and Sichuan University, China. In 2010 he was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to Science and Higher Education, and appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London in 2015. Dr. Jackson began his engineering career in 1983. He received a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Dr. Jackson continued his studies and conducted research at Liverpool gaining a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Jackson then accepted a research fellowship at the world-famous Cavendish Laboratory in the University of Cambridge working with Professor John Field, before becoming a lecturer in engineering at the University of Liverpool. At Liverpool, Dr. Jackson established research in the field of micromachining and nanomachining and attracted research contracts in excess of $10 million. After working as a Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering Technology at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Jackson began his duties as Professor and Department Head of Engineering Technology at K-State Salina on July 1, 2013. He is a McCune and Middlekauff Endowed Chair at Kansas State University, Salina.
