This is not a how-to book, although the first part of the book has a solid introduction to weaving on a rigid heddle loom, from warping up to how to weave and is suitable for the first time weaver. In the second part of the book, the pages of cloth are grouped by colour, and show you how you can combine different colours and textures within the same cloth to great effect. The third section shows how that cloth can be used. However there are no projects that give step by step instructions to create a particular fabric shown in the fabulous photos. That is not its purpose. This is a book of ideas that you use to create your own modern fabrics from yarns, threads and found objects. It is suggestive, not instructive, and assumes that you will take inspiration from the textiles within and create your own ideas based on what you have seen. This is the sort of book you keep in your weaving library, to browse through when you are planning a project, and refer to when seeking ideas, or to validate your chosen design and materials. This is a thoroughly modern take on the old samples book that a weaver used for collecting and storing ideas and weaving drafts, and shows how traditional threads like cotton and linen can be mixed with modern knitting yarns, ribbons and other items to create a very 21st century look. There are several types of looms mentioned in the first section of the book, and descriptions of how some are made and used, but it is assumed you have access to a rigid heddle loom. If you have a larger multi-shaft loom, the suggestions and ideas here should prove just as inspirational, particularly when combined with more traditional methods of weaving.
