A standard text for bush regenerators and amateurs interested in native plants of the Sydney Region but who baulk at the more comprehensive texts. Has application north of Sydney to the Central Coast and lower part of the Hunter (lower North Coast) areas. Contains line drawings rather than photos (which accounts for its relative modest price). Contains several errors and this third edition is now starting to show its age due to the reclassification of a couple Plant Families in the last few years. Nevertheless recommended for beginners and those who require an intermediate level (and portable) work.

This is a classic reference book for the avid native plant enthusiast. Illustrated with line drawings, and supported with brief but informative text, this book is priceless for Sydneysiders interested in their local environment. It contains profiles of most common native plants in the Sydney district, including identification features, habitats, and interesting information such as Indigenous Australian names and uses of plants. Unlike many reference books, this resource uses line drawings, which draw attention to key features, rather than provide photos which are often misleading or show variant forms. Whether on the coast, the depths of a valley, or a dry ridgetop, this book is perfect for bushwalkers and Sydneysiders who would like to get to know their bushland better, being without a doubt the most popular and reliable reference for the everyday person interested in our beautiful environment.
