Patrick Hochner began taking photographs in his native Alsace when he was 14, using the family bathroom as his darkroom. At about the same time, he became interested in traveling, and has now visited over 100 countries in every part of the world, combining his passion for photography with travel. Arriving in Japan in the late 1970s, he has called Japan home for the past 30 years. He and his wife Akiko have fallen in love with the city of Kyoto, the old imperial capital, where he is currently documenting the Hanamachi geisha district--an amazing world full of grace and beauty. They spend half their time in Nice, France.
"[Patrick Hochner's] intimate vignettes capture the rich colors and
pure refinement of these women in superb detail--bowing on stage,
passing through Gion alleys, glimpsed beneath a customary paper
parasol, or visiting Kyoto temples. Send one to that friend of
yours who loves Japan." -- Kyoto Journal
"…[These] cards will make a lovely set for anyone who has a love of
Japan, geisha culture, a sense of class and mystique, or a love of
fine fabrics and art, because geisha are an art form of their own."
