The author of Without a Backward Glance asks: What does it take to be a good woman--and what does it take from you?
Susanna Greenfield has given her all to being a good daughter, sister, wife, and mother. Somehow, she's maintained her profession as a college art teacher, as well as rearing two headstrong teenagers and nurturing a twenty-year marriage to Gerry, a confident, ambitious architect. She's also the eternal peacemaker between her pretty younger sister Angie, former junkie turned born-again Christian, and their strong- willed mother, Jean.
Just when Susanna is struggling to revive her creative career, a devastating accident rips apart the fabric of her world, exposing secrets which threaten to destroy both a marriage, and a life. Plumbing the rich emotional vocabulary of faith and betrayal, loyalty and forgiveness, Trust is the story of a woman's challenge to find her self.

Kate Veitch is a journalist and author who grew up in Melbourne, Australia. Currently, she divides her time between San Francisco and New South Wales, Australia.
This book leads the reader on an interesting journey, beginning with the introduction of Susanna, a woman who behaves like a stereotypical middle-class Australian suburban housewife. The less dominant within the domestic partnership, Susanna has the handsome, successful husband, two teenage children, and a close and loving extended family. There exists a rather normal amount of family discontent and it doesn't take long for the unease between the relationships to surface. Then, in chapter 21 and set against the backdrop of the 2009 Victorian bushfires, a tragedy occurs. This allows the reader to develop a new relationship with the characters and in particular that of Susanna. In so many ways, Veitch's writing is unremarkable. She tackles the everyday and the mundane reality of life. The relationships and the characters that she has developed are not extraordinary, but this adds to the charm of the story. It is believable and it is tangible. Her dialogue is credible and not laboured, and her setting is timely for her Australian audience. An enjoyable read, Trust is far from challenging but is by no means lightweight, and is likely to be preferred by the female reader.
