While it was a charming movie in it's own right, it was disapointing when compared to the previous movie "Going my way" this movie was a follow up of the same character (Father O' Malley) played by Bing Crosby.

"The Bells of St Mary's" has dated a bit to be honest, which is a little strange because "Going My Way", to which this film is a sequel, hasn't dated too badly at all. At any rate this film is strictly okay, though it isn't as good as "Going My Way" and that is what hurts it I think: it had already been done before (by the same people!). Definitely better in black and white though (it's another one of the old films to have been colourised).
