He encounters hostility, isolation, disease, poverty and a variety of set-backs which humble him, but make him more determined than ever to succeed. Nominated for four Academy Awards (1946).

THE HAWAIIANS: The intertwined lives of two kindred souls with ambition begins when Captain Whip Hoxworth (Charlton Heston) discovers that Nyuk Tsin has been smuggled aboard as part of cargo on The Carthaginian, which he captains, a cargo supposed to consist of only male Chinese workers bound for Hawaii. Nominated for an Academy Award (1971).
