At the end of the 9th century many of the separate kindgoms, which we now call England, have fallen in bloody conflict with invading Danes. Against this turbulent backdrop lives our hero, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon). Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is captured by the Danes and raised as one of their own. For many years fate binds him to Alfred (David Dawson), Saxon King of Wessex. Uhtred must fight for Alfred's dream of uniting the kingdoms. Suffering great personal tragedy, Uhtred is torn between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing. After Alfred's death, the turbulent reign of the new King Edward threatens his father's dream more than ever. Uhtred confronts a difficult choice--if he deserts Alfred's legacy, the future of the English people will be changed forever.

SEASON 1: The year is 872 and many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Danes, leaving the great kingdom of Wessex standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred (David Dawson).

Against this turbulent backdrop lives our hero, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon). Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is captured by the Danes and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested. What is he? Saxon or Dane? On a quest to reclaim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides if he is to play his part in the birth of a new nation and, ultimately, recapture his ancestral lands.

SEASON 2: Uhtred is still recovering from fighting a defining battle that saved Wessex for King Alfred but which came at a huge personal price. Mourning for those he has lost, Uhtred begins a voyage north to reclaim his own fate: to avenge Earl Ragnar's death and recapture his ancestral lands.

Alfred's conviction to create a united England is stronger than ever and he sets his sights on the wild lands of the north, which have fallen into chaos and rebellion. It is a dangerous time for Saxon and Dane alike but Alfred champions a new king--a Christian Dane--to unite the tribes. Uhtred is faced with questions of fate and duty as he continues to fight for the country of his birth, against the people of his upbringing.

With a newfound love, it seems he may finally be on his chosen path but in times of rivalrous factions, bloodshed and shocking betrayal Uhtred is tested like never before.

SEASON 3: Time is running out for King Alfred to unite the kingdoms. With his health failing and the line of succession uncertain, Alfred looks to our hero Uhtred to ensure his young son Edward (Timothy Innes) becomes the next king. Meanwhile, dark forces are moving outside the court and when a powerful Danish warlord Bloodhair (Ola Rapace) attacks, Uhtred must lead Wessex's forces into battle. Uhtred captures Bloodhair's mysterious lover, the savage sorceress Skade (Thea Sofie), who throws a curse and his world becomes blighted by tragedy.

In this dangerous time of treachery and chaos, Uhtred is caught between enemies both Dane and Saxon and confronts a difficult choice--is he deserts Alfred's cause, the future of the English people will be changed forever.

SEASON 4: A few years into Edward's reign with the young King still living in the shadow of his father, Alfred. Alfred wanted his best fighter Uhtred to swear allegiance to his son, something Uhtred refused to do...When Edward cannot choose, it's Uhtred who offers himself up to Sigtryggr as the Dane killer.
