Van Johnson stars as a GI whose ambition is to write a famous book. Shortly after World War II he goes to Paris where he meets the beautiful and wealthy young woman played by Elizabeth Taylor. They fall in love and he settles down there to attempt to write his novel. All goes well until he finds that he cannot sell his masterpiece and turns to the bottle for solace. His uncontrollable drinking causes the couple to fight continually and Taylor is accidentally locked out of her house one night during a rainstorm…
