Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt star in this lavishly produced classic about the enchanted paradise of Shangri-La where time stands still.

Frank Capra's enduring masterpiece, Lost Horizon had a running time of 132 minutes upon its initial release in 1937. For a World War II re-issue, 24 minutes were cut to tone down the films pacifist message. Film preservationist Robert Gitt, working over a period of twenty-five years, has utilized footage found all over the world to restore a number of missing scenes. With extraordinary art direction, the set of Shangri-La is considered the largest ever built in Hollywood - winning designer Stephen Goosson a 1937 Academy Award. Furthermore, the budget for the picture was staggering and cost almost four times the amount of any Columbia film at the time; an equivalent cost of approximately $30-$40 billion today. Lost Horizon is considered an exception among Capra's work for its deviation from his usual upbeat "American" theme - and continues to capture the imagination of the viewing public today.

Lost Horizon tells a classic story of a group of people who after a plane crash find themselves in a place where the aging process ceases. Their reactions are all dramatically different. Part adventure, part romance, richly complex and nuanced. Very compelling and beautifully restored for this reissued edition. A movie to treasure.

It was extremely nice to get a good copy of the old master Lost Horizon. It was most enjoyable to be able to watch it and the copy was extremely good for its age. Highly recommended

Fantasy filled film that shows the different facaets of human nature. Beautifully conceived by Frank Capra whose brilliant at making films with sentlemenity as main force. A masterpiece which was brutally cut during its threaitcal run and only recently has the film been somewhat restored. Thus, the complete version of Lost Horizon(1937) is one of many lost classics in history of film. Acting is excellent with everyone giving deep performances. An wonderful story with intriquing spirital symbolisms. Ronald Colman does a marvalous job as the good natured and tolerate Robert Conway. Personally I perfer Lost Horizons(1937) over Its a Wonderful Life(1946) because the main character in the former is more complex.

An interestin story based on James Hilton's Lost Horizon novel. A planeload of people is diverted to the mountains and ends up finding the Lost City of Shangri-La. Inhabited by a bunch of well meaning monks, or at least it seems that way. A few people there disagree, and some of the travellers have to choose between staying in one place for all time, with effective immortality, or leaving and rejoining the normal world.
