Veronica Lake stars in this Western following the feud between a wilful local girl and the landowner whose advances she spurns. As the daughter of Ben Dickason (Charlie Ruggles), Connie (Lake) is due to inherit some land of her own. Frank Ivey (Preston Foster), a friend of her father, takes a shine to her, but Connie is unimpressed - particularly when Ivey, used to getting his own way, drives her fiancée out of town in a fit of rage. Now armed with her own patch of land, a bitter territorial battle begins between Connie and Ivey, with Connie's foreman Dave Nash (Joel McCrea) at the heart of the struggle.
