Set amongst the harsh beauty of the Canadian landscape, this northern stars Alan Ladd as tight lipped Canadian Mountie Thomas ORoarke in Raoul Walshs Saskatchewan.

Returning home from a trapping expedition with his Cree half-brother, ORoarke happens upon Grace Markey (Shelly Winters), the sole survivor of a vicious Indian attack. Upon hearing her story, the naive Mountie Commander Benton believes the Cree are on the war path, not realizing the Sioux have set up the confrontation in order to gain allies against the U.S. 7th Cavalry.
