Following the death of DS Mel Silver, the Cold Case Unit is in shock. The already intense DCI Boyd is rocked by the loss of a valuable team member. Grace and Spence try to keep the team stable and integrate the new members of the unit.
TOWERS OF SILENCE: A mummified body found on a derelict aeroplane leads the team into the world of fake drugs and a murderous conspiracy. When a major international pharmaceutical company is implicated in the cover-up, it becomes clear that they will take steps, however illegal, to silence their problem.
BLACK RUN: When ex-cop Eddie Vine summons Boyd to prison, where he is serving a life sentence for murder, Boyd accepts the invitation, expecting a confession. Instead, he gets forgiveness and learns that Vine is terminally ill. Tormented by the possibility that he got it wrong, Boyd sets out to prove to that he put the right man behind bars.
SUBTERRANEANS: A millionaire businessman is found dead a year after he disappeared, having been kept prisoner in an underground cellar. In the same place another male body is found this one appears to have been brutally murdered. Faced with the task of finding out what unites them, the team are led to an unlikely suspect.
STRAW DOG: In 1979, Grace Foley assisted in the arrest and conviction of Tony Greene for the murder and mutilation of young men. Thirty years later, as Grace is called to give evidence at Greens appeal, someone appears to be copying his chilling tactics: she has received a jar of pickled, severed fingers.
UNDERTOW: Steven Hunt has served nine months in prison for benefit fraud and is about to be released. The team believe he has committed a string of murders but, with lack of solid evidence, they face a race against time to prevent him from leaving prison and embarking on another killing spree.
COLD FUSION: A case Spencer worked on whilst he was a policeman at the Atomic Energy Commission is under review. DNA evidence that has been untestable until now looks set to reveal who murdered tow anti-nuclear campaigners in the 1980s. Meanwhile, someone inside the team is making every effort to destroy the new evidence.
