Douglas Ellis- co-founded and co-organizes the Windy City Pulp and
Paper Convention. For many years his Tattered Pages Press published
the pulp fanzine Pulp Vault, as well as other books on the pulps.
He was one of the authors of The Adventure House Guide to the
Pulps, and has edited several pulp anthologies, including the Best
of Adventure series. His book, Uncovered- The Hidden Art Of The
Girlie Pulps, an in-depth study of the spicy pulps and their art,
was named ForeWord Magazine's 2003 Popular Culture Book of the
Year. In 2013, Robert Weinberg, Bob Garcia and he collaborated on
The Collectors' Book of Virgil Finlay, a collection of Finlay's
gorgeous art.
Ed Hulseis widely acknowledged as being one of the leading pulp
experts. He has edited the pulp/popular culture journalBlood 'N
Thunderfor many years, and has authored a number of books,
including the greatBlood 'N Thunder Guide to the Pulpsand a recent
book onThe Shadow. He and Douglas Ellis have been friends for many
years.
Bob Weinberg- Weinberg grew up reading and then collecting the
science-fiction magazines of the late 1950s, and owned (Bob passed
this year) one of the largest collections of such publications in
the world. When he discovered the single-character hero pulps like
theShadowandDoc Savage, his fate was sealed. Along with fellow
collector, Lohr McKinstry, he published the first index to such
magazines,The Hero-Pulp Index.In 1978, his book about the history
ofWeird Talesmagazine,The Weird Tales Story,won the World Fantasy
Award. He continued to write and edit books about the Pulps over
the next twenty-five years. HisBiographical Dictionary of Science
Fiction and Fantasy Authorswon the World Fantasy Award in 1988. It
was also nominated for The Hugo Award (given by the World SF
Convention). Weinberg also won the Lamont Award, given every year
by Pulpcon for work done in the Pulp field; the Sam Moskowitz Award
for collecting Science Fiction (given by First Fandom) and a
Special Award from the World SF Convention for his contributions to
the SF field. By the time Bob passed in summer, 2016, he was owner
of one of the world's largest collection of Pulp magazines, and was
regarded as one of the leading experts on the genre.
F. Paul Wilson(foreword) is an acclaimed author of sci-fi and
