This introduction to metamorphic petrology is part of a series which sets out to provide concise textbooks covering material that would commonly constitute a course unit in a geology or earth sciences degree, and which is designed to be international in scope. The book attempts to provide a broad overview of the developments made in the study of metamorphism during the 1980s and to introduce the subject of metamorphic rocks to students with a geology background, developing it to a level suitable for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students. It integrates an account of mineralogical changes accompanying metamorphism of the major rock types with a textural approach to metamorphic processes. It should be particularly useful to students studying structural geology, tectonics and specialist courses in microtextures, as well as providing a grounding in the "nuts and bolts" of metamorphic studies for advanced graduates and undergraduates taking courses in metamorphic petrology and metamorphic geochemistry. An ELBS/LPBB edition is available.
