About the Author

Professor, Academy of Third World Studies, Jamia Millia Jslamia, New Delhi. Winner of the National Award for Best Critic (1994), she was associated with Cinemaya since its inception up to 2001, first as Assistant, then Deputy and later Executive Editor. Author of The Post-Soviet Condition: Chintz Aitmatov in the '90s (2005) and Guru Dutt: Through Light and Shade (2008), editor of Cultural Histories of Central Asia (2009), co-editor of Being and Becoming: The Cinemas of Asia (2002) and Globatisation and the Third World (2009). Former Executive Editor of Cinemaya with which she was associated from the beginning, former Joint Director of Osian's-Cinefan Festival of Asian & Arab Cinema, journalist, editor and translator, Latika Padgaonkar has served on juries of many international film festivals, has co-edited Being and Becoming: The Cinemas' of Asia (2002), The World of Kenji Mizoguchi (2007), Women in Politics (1993), has a PhD from the University of Paris, and worked for many years with UNESCO.
